Underground Drawpoint Improved Brow Beam Design

Commodity: Copper

Location: New South Wales

Services: 3D design and engineering, detailed drafting, installation services

Challenge: The existing brow beams were difficult to install, harder to maintain and had no flexibility. Larger particles regularly jammed against the beams and caused damage.

Solution: We designed a new beam made from heavy-wall pipe, loosely mounted between fabricated plates secured to the walls and backs. The pipe slides into channels for machine-based installation and adjusts horizontally to change the rill. It can also rotate to release larger particles, reducing hang-ups. A damaged pipe can be rolled out and replaced.

Result: The design, manufacture and trial installation were all completed within the required timeframes and budget.
