COB Rail Mat Redesign and Liner Improvements

Commodity: Gold

Location: New South Wales

Services: Engineering design, fabrication and casting supply

Challenge: The existing rail mat liner didn’t provide enough rock boxing, so it wore out quickly and fell short of shutdown schedules. It was difficult and dangerous to replace, and worn mats could fall off the wall and cause problems downstream in the materials handling system.

Solution: We designed a system that captures incoming material to form a wall of rock and dirt that protects the bin. Replaceable liners that one person can handle are mounted on a fabricated frame bolted to the wall. We also designed and manufactured a purpose-built liner lifting frame.

Result: The review, design and supply were completed on time and on budget, ready for installation during the next planned outage.
